How to Prepare a Winning BOM for Component Sourcing

When sourcing electronic components in volume, a clean and complete Bill of Materials (BOM) is the single biggest lever on quotation speed and accuracy.

1. Use exact manufacturer part numbers. Avoid generic descriptions like "10k resistor" — always specify the full MPN and preferred brand.
2. State required quantity per line item and your target price if known.
3. Note acceptable alternatives or "exact only" requirements.
4. Export from your EDA tool (Altium, KiCad, Eagle) directly to CSV or Excel.
